The Phoenix Prince Didn't Burn so Bright

To Read or Not To Read: The Phoenix Prince by Kristen Gupton is a very interesting premise; I would put this into the "maybe" read pile. Read if you like vampires and the supernatural but can overlook small inconsistencies with storyline and time details. Do not read if you are an amatuer history buff, like myself, and get caught up in details that are not exactly accurate of the times.
Overall: I found this book to be a bit cumbersome for me to read. I am the daughter of a history professor and attention to detail comes naturally. Although I don't remember if Gupton actually ever identifies an exact time in history - I pictured this story being circa renaissance times. My issue is that there are small inconsistencies with what would have been available at that time; for example the prince goes out to drink a "bottle of beer". It is a very minor detail, but something my history neophyte self couldn't reconcile.
I did absolutely adore the Prince "Keiran" and his best friend "Jerris" are incredibly lovable characters, they have a brotherly banter that is appealing. If you have siblings or friends that are close enough to act like siblings you understand and can appreciate the way they are written.
Other interesting Notes: What I find interesting was the Prince being a vampire; the author includes bits of known myth, but she also takes creative license to create a bit of lore to fit her story, I can appreciate Gupton for being bold and going out on a limb to expand upon what is "known" fact about vampires.
Triggers for this book include biting and blood (main character is a vampire after all - kind of comes with the territory) there is romance, and I think only once the use of the F* word (my favorite word as many of you know, but I'm trying to keep this clean!) it is used as a literary device to show the strength of emotion.
